The Early Prevention and Intervention Project (EPIP) is a collaborative service of the Central Community Health Board of Hamilton County, Inc., and the Cincinnati Drug and Poison Information Center.

The focus of EPIP is training and education, to chemical dependency treatment staffs and identified client groups. Thereby, aiding in preventing the transmission of HIV, other sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) and tuberculosis (TB).

Specifically, EPIP:

  • Provides training for the staff of chemical dependency treatment programs.
  • Conducts prevention education sessions with clients in chemical dependency treatment programs to foster an awareness of the behaviors that increase the risk of HIV infection.
  • Involves HIV-challenged clients in support groups.
  • Develops specialized Fitness Programs designed to address the physical needs of the HIV-challenged client.

The Early Prevention and Intervention Project (EPIP) also:

  • Acquires and disseminates the most up-to-date gender and culture specific training resources to aid in the prevention of HIV, STD's and TB transmission.
  • Trains the chemical dependency treatment center staff in the most effective use of the aforementioned resources for both prevention and early intervention.
  • Collects and disseminates the most current research data to proessionals and the general public upon request' and,
  • Solicits the entire community as partnets to address the issues of HIV, STE's and TB as increasingly searious public health problem.

EPIP is funded by a federal block grant to the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board (OADAS), via an appropriation to the Hamilton County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board (ADAS).
