ABOUT THE GREATER CINCINNATI
AIDS CONSORTIUM (GCAC)

The Greater Cincinnati AIDS Consortium (GCAC) has been an information and gathering point for agencies and individuals involved with or interested in HIV/AIDS issues since 1982. Our mission is to be the center for the exchange of information on HIV/AIDS and to assist in identifying the needs and gaps in HIV-related services in Southwestern Ohio, Southeastern Indiana and Northern Kentucky areas while advocating for HIV/AIDS programs.

GCAC supports the important work of providing technical assistance to two committees vital to the region’s HIV/AIDS service delivery, Ryan White Title II and the Cincinnati Regional Advisory Group.  Through these committees it allows member agencies, consumers and concerned individuals to have input and impact on HIV/AIDS issues by:  understanding how HIV/AIDS programs are funded; knowing what are the latest information affecting HIV/AIDS consumers; and, knowing those involved in HIV/AIDS programming and decision making.  Directly, GCAC has contact with over 800 individuals through workshops, its electronic alerts and bulletins and its emails on HIV/AIDS and related issues. GCAC press/media releases in support of such events as the Black Church of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, AIDS Week and International AIDS day and other AIDS events reaches over 100,000 people in the Greater Cincinnati area.

To insure the accomplishment of these goals, GCAC provides technical assistance and support to two committees that provide both planning of services and oversight to HIV/AIDS funding for our region.

  • Ryan White Title II Consortium #3 (Ryan White) coordinates Planning and Evaluation for the Ohio Department of Health for those HIV consumers who meet specific financial requirement but cannot find immediate assistance for paying for essential services such as Transportation; Family Needs; Medical, Dental Services and Home Health Care; Housing and Nutrition Needs; and, Rehabilitation services. The region’s Ryan White programs serve Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland and Warren Counties.

  • Cincinnati Regional Advisory Group (CRAG) is the Ohio HIV Coordinating, Evaluating and Prevention Planning program for Southwestern Ohio. CRAG's purpose is to do need assessments on HIV/AIDS prevention and intervention issues and to make recommendations that effect dollars in Hamilton County, Butler and Clermont Counties. Its prevention activities target persons (men, women and young people) engaging in at risk sexual behavior while encouraging HIV counseling and testing activities.

In addition, members of the GCAC serve on the regional Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS, a program of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development that provides housing assistance and supportive services for low-income people living with HIV/AIDS that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in Northern Kentucky, Dearborn and Ohio Counties in Indiana and Brown, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren Counties in Ohio.
